Herve di Rosa is known for his outlandish cartoon paintings and sculptures. Vincent is his tribute to the legendary artist Vincent van Gogh. An angry, satirical van Gogh is surrounded by a myriad of images to his life and artwork. Sunflowers lurk in the bottom corner, staring at their creator menacingly. A severed ear hovers over the face. Circular brushstrokes not unlike those used in many of van Gogh’s paintings create the backdrop. A gaping porthole into his brain shows a room, which Di Rosa says is
“reminiscent of the room in the famous painting by van Gogh, which, to my mind, is the perfect model of solitude and distress…” Still, if you have any qualms on the subject of this painting, look no further than the animated letters that literally spell it out for you.
